Literature of the Americas is an anthology of 19th- and 20th-century prose, poetry, and drama by writers from both North and South America, including a story by V. S. Naipaul of Trinidad, winner of the 2001 Nobel Prize in Literature. It is organized thematically with editorial materials intended to prompt class discussion and student writing. Each of the 12 chapters contains two or three pieces of student writing that link the universal themes with recognizable experience to facilitate understanding and inspire creative student writing.
