Now thanks to the same mother and daughter author-team Coryn Tanaka & May Masaki of U & Me Crafts Inc. we have two new enticing books for crafters interested in Hawaiiana. The best part - the lei creations presented - unlike those made from real flowers - last forever and in most cases look like the real thing. Both how-to books guide beginning lei makers and experts alike though the process with step-by-step instructions starting with gathering of supplies and ending with - a beautiful finished gift item. Making Ribbon Leis 2 - More Handmade Gifts of Aloha follows on where Book 1 left off. 20 new lei designs are included - some quite involved with multi-colored ribbons and a variety of patterns used. Large close-up color photos illustrate each step along the way to completion. The second book Making Eyelash Crochet Leis is similar in format and design but presents a new and different type of ribbon style. What makes these 51 new leis different is that yarns and crocheting techniques are used. Along with all kinds of different yarns some with names like whiskers mustache fizzy cotton candy salsa and funny are sample leis that incorporated silk flowers and leaves. The end results are leis wristlets/anklets hatbands and hair ornaments that are fuzzy and fuller and most certainly very colorful.
