As part of the Comprehensive Literacy Statewide Development grant, Bess Press helped students at Waipahu High School create their own cultural anthology called Rising from Our Roots.
The entire storytelling project involved learning about the bookmaking journey from ideation to publication. Local authors and illustrators served as project mentors for the English Language Learner (ELL) students as they wrote, edited, and illustrated their stories. The final product, published with the support of Bess Press, is the Rising from Our Roots anthology. You can read all about this incredible publication at Waipahu High School's EL program website.
