Maka is an an arboreal mollusk (tree snail) endemic to Hawai‘i, on his journey of self-acceptance and humility. The contemporary story also addresses the rapid ‘ōhi‘a death fungus that has spread over 100,000 acres on Hawai‘i Island and was just recently found on Kaua‘i.
