Author Ka‘ōhua Lucas received her master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. She has helped write several culture-based curriculum projects that focus on ancient Hawaiian fishponds, the ahupua‘a, and the island of Kaho‘olawe. Ka‘ōhua’s husband and three keiki inspired her to write the stories in the Kamaiki Series.
Illustrator Harinani Orme is a Native Hawaiian artist who was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa and a Master of Fine Arts degree at the Pratt Institute in New York. Along with being a fine arts painter and a book illustrator, she also creates artwork in mixed media and other mediums.
