For the first time, a collection of stories and songs developed especially for use in the Pūnana Leo centers is now available to the general public n this premier series of four publications.
Because of the need for more Hawaiian language materials which relate to the daily experiences of children growing up in modern Hawai‘i and yet which reflect traditional Hawaiian values, the Curriculum Development Committee of the ‘Aha Pūnana Leo has developed a series of stories and songs written in the Hawaiian language.
Although the stories and songs were written to supplement the curriculum of the Pūnana Leo program, they can be easily adapted to numerous uses by anyone personally involved with children or anyone who is simply interested in the Hawaiian language. The content is primarily designed to appeal to children, but the vocabulary and sentence structure are standard Hawaiian, which can be read and appreciated by Hawaiian speakers or students of any age.
Stories in this series are provided with English, French, and German translations in the back of each book, and songs presented in Pai ka Leo have English translations alongside the original Hawaiian.
This book also includes 15 original songs for children with lyrics in Hawaiian and English.
